Designs In Wood is a family joinery company based in Great Bentley, Colchester, Essex dedicated to producing quality, handmade bespoke kitchens and free-standing furniture. We've been established for nearly 20 years and we're proud of the reputation we have developed over the years designing, building and fitting handmade furniture.
We're passionate about every project we enter into and want you to enjoy the experience of working with us. We work closely with you to develop ideas and will guide you through the whole process to create the room that's exactly right for you. We created The Simple Kitchen Cupboard because we realised there was also a need for individual design without the price tag of a fully bespoke build.
We found we were able to achieve this by adapting our existing cupboard build to a more simplistic design whilst remaining loyal to our founding principles for practical and simple design.

We aspire to accomplish rooms fitted with furniture based on English design through the centuries. We take pride in our craftsmanship, the quality of the materials we use and our attention to the smallest detail. Whilst we uphold the use of traditional joinery methods we've happily embraced up-to-date techniques within our workshop.

Starting a new project is an exciting time, for you and for us. Because it's your home we work closely with you to develop a complete understanding of your requirements. With years of design experience we understand the importance of aesthetic and technical detail. And because we make everything ourselves our designs can develop without boundaries so you can choose the bespoke furniture that's exactly right for you.

Our motivation is to create a room with furniture sympathetic to the property. Of course, there is the exception when we are asked to create a style of furniture to completely contrast the period or style of a property. The subtle changes to the way we build our handmade kitchens and free-standing furniture can offer quite different results, so we can create a room that is truly unique to you and your home.
