Dave has repaired large sections of our old stone wall over the last year or so using traditional lime mortar. He has done a thorough job of cleaning up the crumbling mortar and some old poor quality repairs. We undertake conservation repairs to a variety of parts of a building, from walls to fireplaces to windows. The approach to each repair whether an individual stone repair or castle wall is approached with a view to understanding as much as possible about the history and materials. Only then are sensitive repairs carried out to the highest standard.
Lime Mortar Repairs
Report
A lime mortar repair or plastic repair can be used to repair damaged masonry rather than replacing the entire piece. A blend of sands and stone dusts are mixed with either lime putty or natural hydraulic lime. A variety of mortar samples are made to determine an ideal match. Mortar repairs are generally carried out on a small scale and are suitable for sheltered locations.
