Squires Garden Centres
D.J. Squire incorporated his landscaping and gardening business having been made redundant from the Police Orphanage in Twickenham. D.J. Squire built up the landscaping business and by the end of the 1950s had a full fleet of vans and a large team of skilled craftsmen. Colin Squire opened our first garden centre at Twickenham, which was one of only a handful across the country at the time.

Moving into Berkshire, the Windsor centre joined Squire's, together with West Horsley near Leatherhead with a Herbaceous & Bedding Plant Nursery. We built a new state of the art garden centre at a site in Long Ditton near Kingston that was officially opened by Kim Wild. The site at Crawley was redeveloped and a brand new centre emerged, opened by Bob Flowerdew.

A large garden centre at Badshot Lea near Farnham joined the group, to become a flagship store. Squire's acquired 3 additional sites from the Shoots Group, extending operations to Washington, Stanmore and Cobham. Squire's celebrated exhibiting every year for 25 years at the RHS Hampton Court Flower Show.

Our History
Report
Over eighty-five years ago David Squire, Head Groundsman and gardener at the Police Orphanage in Twickenham, was made redundant. With a young family to support he set up his own business, and that business has grown into a thriving, family-owned garden centre group which now comprises 16 garden centres, and rose, herbaceous and bedding plant nurseries.

Very nice relaxing place bit pricy on some things though but suppose it is what it is with these places being overpriced. is expected by some people with more money than sense or willingness to shop around

Came here with a Friend for lunch, food was delicious and cooked well, staff were good and looked after the customers. However items in the Garden centre were expensive and over priced, brought a few Photo Frames, which actually were wrong and the lady told me when I went and got Photos done by Max spielmann. Went and got a refund. Won't be buying here again.

I phoned Squires in Shepperton half an hour ago to ask for advice about a sick plant I got from them and was fortunate enough to speak to a lady called Sheila who gave me her patience time and the advice and reassurance I needed. Squires are consistently good but Sheila just kicked it up a notch. Thank you!
Highly recommended

Cafe Shepperton breakfast: I ordered a 9 item breakfast with extra butter and brown bread.
It was ok, nothing special. There was no excess of oil or grease which was great, and you can choose soft or hard fried eggs. Brilliant.
What was irritating was that the butter had slipped off the bread into the beans, see photo. Butter could come in a little pot, like the ketchup. Also a side plate is needed to spread the butter.
The “brown” bread should be called multi seeded or with grains as this can be a dietary problem for some people. Having said that we were asked if we had any dietary requirements

This is a great place to spend time if you're looking for garden stuff, wanting seeds etc for your allotment , needing to restock your fish tank or buy a rabbit or just wanting to browse around craft and embroidery materials. Friendly staff and a great cafe and a lovely selection of plants for indoors and out as well as sheds and garden furniture. They have customer wheelchairs and toilets too so it's a very easy place to visit for old and young. You can buy birthday cards, books and foody treats and they organise seasonal events so there's always something new to enjoy. Some of

The Harrods of Garden Centres.

This is site where the chain was founded and still one of the best in the Group. Its very popular with a high turnover of plants so you rarely find anything pot bound. There is a reasonably good selection of plants though it does tend to sell out quickly of vegetable seedlings and the range of big shrubs is limited.

However, it can be a bit on the pricey side. The pricing seems geared to people only buying one plant. If you are buying a lot of shrubs I would recommend taking the trouble to visit Wyvale Garden Centre located nearby in Sion House, Isleworth (12

Squires are a very popular garden centre, which is busy all year round.

The high number of visitors means most of the stock is very fresh and not root bound. This makes a big difference as the quality is so much better and there plants tend to get off to a much better start once planted in the garden.

They also have properly trained staff on hand to give plant advise - which probably accounts for why they are so popular.

The downside is it's not the cheapest of garden centres - some of the bedding plants are almost double what you would pay in a DIY centre. Also the range of shrubs
