Our hardwood merchants business was established in 1862 and nearly 160 years later the company remains an independent family business committed to supplying quality hardwood and softwood, with a reputation for our high standard of service.We stock over 40 species of Hardwoods including some exotics.
We carefully select from a wide range of quality hardwoods to customers exact requirements which minimises wastage; we do not supply in packs. Take a video tour of our hardwood sheds. We have good stocks of high quality softwood including No.2 Clears grade Western Red Cedar.

Birmingham developed as an industrial centre around the extensive canal network and it was here that John Sykes first established a timber business in partnership with James Stevens. John Sykes then set up his own premises in Sheepcote Street in 1862, where he sold many hardwood timbers from a variety of countries.

Hardwood Decking

All of our hardwood decking timbers are naturally durable and hard wearing. There is no need to apply any form of treatment as the product will weather to a beautiful silver/grey colour. However decking oil is available to help maintain the natural colour as much as possible, if required. With the range of finishes that we have available decking can also be stained to your preferred colour.
