Lime rendering over new build materials with cut and pointed joints, to give appearance of stone (see chimney in gallery). This is a very cost effective way of chimney replacement/extensive repair if local planning regulations will allow it. Stone restoration i.e. re-forming original detail in eroded stone where possible (see window surrounds in the gallery) and mechanical smoothing of stone.
Lime Mortar, Stone & Brick Re-Pointing

As you gather quotes from building restoration specialists, the type of mortar they propose for the pointing speaks volumes. Anyone suggesting the use of cement mortar for your heritage building should be discounted since it is wholly inappropriate. Masonry walls rely on the fact that moisture entering the wall can escape as both water and water vapour.
Stone Repair & Replacement

Whenever necessary for Structural or Planning requirements or required for aesthetics when budgets allow, the replacement of stone is in our opinion preferable to a repair. However, due to the superior stone compatible repair products currently available through suppliers such as Masons Mortars. The surface repair of stone has become an art form in itself.
Lime Renders
Report
Traditional Lime and Sand renders are an excellent choice for replacement or aesthetic considerations on a suitable background. However, as they are not coloured and if you wish a colour even though advances have been made in the production of Lime Wash. Please be aware that you will probably have my childhood job of Lime Washing the Render every summer!

Most Damp Issues in Traditional Build Sandstone buildings that are not directly related to roof issues, poor exterior maintenance or elevated external landscaping/hard landscaping are caused by 'bridges', of debris forming between the outer wall and the inner wall. The debris is generally mortar that has dried over the years and detached, many clients state that they sometimes hear the mortar falling 'in the wall', when the house is quiet.
