Hydracrat is a leading rotary drilling contractor specialising in ground investigation, geothermal, water wells and large diameter boreholes throughout Scotland. Hydracrat offers specialist rotary drilling services for ground investigations, geothermal, water wells, earthing rod installations and large diameter boreholes.
Hydracrat is home to the renowned HYCAT drilling rig fleet, which are all designed, built and maintained in-house by our dedicated team. We work on all kinds of sites with our plant being especially capable of traversing the most soft, arduous terrain known to the industry. The comprehensive ground investigation package included rotary probe, open-hole and core drilling through Opencast backfill up to 60mbgl.
The programme also included trial pits, geophysical survey transects, plate bearing tests, laboratory testing and the felling of a decommissioned met mast. In 2017, Hydracrat Ltd won a competitive tender on quality, ingenuity and price and was duly appointed by Ravenscraig Ltd under the technical guidance of SWECO as Principle Contractor to undertake a geo-environmental investigation at the former Ravenscraig Steel Works in Lanarkshire.

Ground Investigation
Report
We specialise in rotary borehole drilling on geotechnical, geo-environmental, geophysical and mineral exploration projects. Hydracrat holds unmatched experience in drilling in some of the industry's harshest, most remote environments. Our plant can be deployed on a variety of development sites, ranging from city centre locations to isolated sites including disused opencast coal fields, quarries, farmland, forestry and peat bogs.
Geothermal
Report
Hydracrat specialises in drilling and completing boreholes for Ground Source Heat Pumps on a range of domestic, commercial and industrial projects. We work in partnership with MCS accredited heat pump suppliers, installers and GSHP design specialists to provide clients with turnkey Ground Source solutions.
Water Wells
Report
We have provided water borehole drilling and installation solutions for thousands of commercial, agricultural and domestic clients throughout Scotland since we were founded in 1960. Establishing a private water well supply can reduce or completely negate the need to use the public mains water system, often resulting in significant savings for the client on water bills.
Earthing Rod Installations
Report
Hydracrat is fast becoming a prominent provider of borehole drilling services to facilitate Earthing Rod Installations. Our work typically involves slimhole rotary drilling to the required depth, to facilitate the installation of earthing rods. Once the earthing rods are installed, the boreholes are sealed with a specialised material using heavy duty grouting equipment.
