Established in the 1970s by John Hartle, our family-run business has grown from humble beginnings as a farm producing eggs and dairy to becoming one of England's pioneering garden centres. Our journey began with a few rose trees at a farmers market, which quickly evolved into offering diverse plants and garden products. In 1986, we expanded to Radcliffe, transforming a disused farm into a destination garden centre now ranked among the top 30 independent garden centres in England.Despite a devastating fire in 2003, we rebuilt with innovation and resilience, further expanding with acquisitions in Dobcross and Halifax. Our team, including John's daughter Frances and son Chris, combines decades of experience with creative vision to deliver exceptional products and services. We pride ourselves on maintaining the family ethos of integrity, quality, and customer care that has defined us for over 50 years.

John Hartle
Founder
John Hartle established Newbank Garden Centre in the 1970s after starting as a farmer. His vision transformed a small plant stall into a multi-site garden centre business, demonstrating entrepreneurial spirit and horticultural passion.
Frances Hartle
Creative Director
Frances Hartle joined the family business from an insurance background, bringing design expertise and creative vision. She has significantly contributed to developing our distinctive garden centre layouts and product presentations.
Chris Hartle
Operations Director
Chris Hartle transitioned from catering to join the family business, applying his organisational skills to improve operational efficiency. He oversees store management and customer service standards across all locations.

We offer free delivery on orders over £75, £2.95 for small items, and £4.95 for standard deliveries. Bulky items are delivered free to UK mainland addresses.

Great place to visit anytime of year but Christmas is extra special and the little Bistro is superb, great food, service, atmosphere and views into the garden - love it.

Good variety of products indoor and outdoor and always well presented. Prices not jaw dropping but as is usual with any garden centre some items can be found cheaper with not too much effort. Christmas range available now (October) and looks like it's still growing.

Going to the garden centre is an experience many have had restricted for a long time, wondering if it would re - open at all, but our last trip was very good, the range of goods was excellent, and when we went for lunch, my meal was excellent, and my wife's was even better, they had even gone off menu to make a meal that used to be available, and it was very satisfactory, top marks.

Shocking. Went in Sunday to purchase garden furniture to be told 3 was in stock couldnt take it that day but can arrange for delivery on Wednesday in which was arranged for the afternoon at my request as we could book half a day to take delivery. ( what a waste of a half day holiday )Was told Id be called 30 minutes before never got a call until 4pm by the delivery driver ( lovely man) who had been into the warehouse that morning to pick up my furniture which they do not have in stock. The manager at new bank told the delivery driver to call me to ask if I want the display stock (at 4pm!
