We are a popular family run garden centre which has been established for over 50 years. We are situated on the beautiful North West Norfolk coast, on the old coast road in the village of Dersingham just one mile away from royal Sandringham. We stock everything you could need for your garden and still believe that plants are at the heart of the garden.
As well as a large well stocked plant area and all the usual garden essentials we have an ever expanding gift range so you will easily find a gift for any occasion. Most of our plants have been supplied by small local nurseries that we have been working with for many years and that have our same passion for quality, healthy plants at competitive prices.
We also have the essential Coffee Shop that is now one the most important parts of anyone's visit to the garden centre. We believe in baking our own cakes, making our own meals of the day, making our own sandwiches on bread supplied by our local baker, and serving coffee that has been roasted just up the road, you will find 90% of our produce home made.

From modest beginnings in a small shop beside the old coast road in Dersingham, Norfolk, R.H.Thaxter Ltd has grown into a large and attractive garden centre, a village supermarket and a coffee shop at the heart of the village. Now celebrating its 55th anniversary, its a family business, started by Ron and Celia Thaxter, that is into its second and third generations.
Coffee Shop

The coffee shop was founded by Edna Thaxter and opened in 1996. Edna believed that if she produced good quality home made food that it would be a great success and she was right. Ever since then we have kept to those same values and the coffee shop goes from strength to strength. We have a large selection of freshly baked cakes, scones, homemade meals of the day and the recent edition of a cooked breakfast served from 9am until 2pm.
Outdoor Plants

Our outdoor plant area offers a great selection of good quality, hardy plants. Where possible, we source from local growers to ensure the plants you purchase are ready to go straight outside into your garden. Throughout the Spring and Summer we are having regular deliveries of fresh stock, often weekly, so keep an eye out for new plants all the time.
Garden Pots

We hold a large range of glazed, terracotta, fibreclay and plastic garden pots and containers to suit all styles of garden. The selection of Malay glazed and terracotta pots changes regularly throughout the season with different colours, shapes and sizes. Our range of Elho plastic pots are durable but lightweight and some of the larger sizes even have built in wheels to assist with moving larger plants.
Compost

To ensure your plants grow well, you will need the correct compost. We offer a good range of Scotts Levington and Westland composts, from our most popular Multi-purpose and Miracle-Gro composts to more specialist needs such as Ericaceous for acid-loving plants and Seed and Cutting compost. We also have bags of chipped and chunky bark, manure, John Innes loam-based composts and growbags.

We have been to Thaxters many times & the cafe is always a first stop. They do excellent light lunches, great pastries and cakes and have a good selection of drinks. The garden centre itself always has something to offer and we never leave without making a purchase or two. I suggest a pre Christmas visit because they have a lovely display and a grotto with a great Father Christmas for your grandchildren to take delight in. Thaxters is a wonderful local garden centre that always has something a bit different to offer & we'll worth visiting even for those just holidaying in the area.

First visit during the week, second on Sunday for lunch and it certainly won't be the last!!! Coffee and cakes mid week were superb and Sunday lunch was just as good - thank you Thaxters!! My sister and brother in law were staying with us and they were highly delighted with both food and service . We will be back very soon!!

Lovely place to visit, though things are a little expensive. But you do get, mostly, better quality plants than other (cheaper) garden centres. Staff are friendly and willing to offer any help and advice possible.
Somewhere I went with my nan as a child and it will always hold special memories. Nice place to take your family for a meal at the adjoining restaurant too

Had breakfast this morning, we reserved our seats, just in case, were seated quickly, our freshly cooked food arrived in good time. Delicious as expected. Great food, service and thoroughly enjoyed. Perfect place to stop for a break.
The garden centre is well stocked and the staff are very knowledgeable and friendly. Plenty of parking.
All in all well worth a visit followed by a lovely cup of tea.
